Multiple agencies were called at around 7 p.m. on Wednesday night to Building 23H when an accidental fire broke out on the roof.

Investigators say that the building's generator was tested earlier in the day, and it was determined that the hot surface of the exhaust pipe ignited the roofing material adjacent to the pipe.

A total of 32 patients were displaced and temporarily transferred to another facility on campus until further arrangements can be made.

Officials noted that VA staff were on the scene mitigating the water damage, and providing services to the patients.

The fire caused approximately $1,000 in damages; however, the water caused upwards of $500,000 in damages. No injuries were reported.
